The TimeberHarvest feature class depicts the area planned and accomplished acres treated as a part of the Timber Harvest program of work, funded through the budget allocation process and reported through the Forest Service Activity Tracking System (FACTS) database within the Natural Resource Manager (NRM) suite of applications. Activities are self-reported by Forest Service Units.
This layer represents select activities accomplished as a part of the timber harvest program of work. It is important to note that this layer does not contain all timber harvest activities because the spatial portion of the activity description is not required and is self-reported by Forest Service units. As spatial data is a new requirement for timber harvest activities, we hope to improve the quality and comprehensiveness of this data in coming years.

Data entry is accomplished by authorized Forest Service personnel through a web application behind the U.S. Forest Service firewall and is restricted by access requirement protocols.
Data is accurate up to the publication date and attribute domains are valid values from Natural Resource Manager (NRM) Forest Activity Tracking System (FACTS).
Generally the source information used to record spatial locations are from: 1) on-screen digitizing with a georeferenced topographic or image background; or 2) GPS field collected positions.
Forest Service Activity Tracking (FACTS) spatial features in ActivityPolygon_Subunit and tabular data from ACTIVITY_FACTS_ATTRIBUTES are merged based on like spatial identification codes (Subunit ID or SUID) in each set of data. A spatial feature will be created for every activity record in the Activity_Facts_Attribute tabular table. Only changed or new data in the sources are processed. Any features that have been deleted from the source are also deleted in the Activity_SilvTSI feature class. Spatial features from the merged output are loaded into the feature class and GIS acres are calculated for each feature on a nightly basis.

4194
Two-aged Shelterwood Establishment Cut (w/res) - 2A (2 ages) / RH (regeneration harvest) / NFH (non final harvest): A type of establishment cut that removes trees except those needed for regeneration and sufficient residual trees representing at least approximately 10% of full stocking. Prepares the seed bed and creates a new age class in a moderated microenvironment. This establishment cut will be followed by the final harvest which will leave at least approximately 10% full stocking to create a two-aged stand. This activity code is in the Timber and Silviculture grouping.
FACTS User Guide, Appendix B: Activity Codes
4162
Two-aged Coppice Cut (w/res) - 2A (2 ages) / RH (regeneration harvest) / FH (final harvest): A two-aged regeneration method in which the majority of the regeneration is from sprouts or root suckers. Sufficient residual trees, representing at least approximately 10% of full stocking, are retained to attain goals other than regeneration and create a two-aged stand. This activity code is in the Timber and Silviculture grouping.
FACTS User Guide, Appendix B: Activity Codes
4101
Coppice Cut - EA (even age) / RH (regeneration harvest) / FH (final harvest): A regeneration method in which all trees in the previous stand are cut and the majority of the regeneration is from sprouts or root suckers. This activity code is in the Timber and Silviculture grouping.
FACTS User Guide, Appendix B: Activity Codes
4143
Overstory Removal Cut (from advanced regeneration) - EA (even age) / RH (regeneration harvest) / FH (final harvest): The cutting of trees constituting an upper canopy layer to release understory trees. The primary source of regeneration is advance reproduction. A minor (less than approximately 10% of full stocking), live component of the upper canopy may be retained for reasons other than regeneration. This activity code is in the Timber and Silviculture grouping.
FACTS User Guide, Appendix B: Activity Codes
4146
Seed-tree Removal Cut (w/ leave trees) - EA (even age) / NRH (not regeneration harvest) / FH (final harvest): A final removal cut that releases established regeneration from competition with seed-trees after they are no longer needed for seed under the seed-tree regeneration method. A minor (less than approximately 10% of full stocking) live component may be retained for reasons other than regeneration. This activity code is in the Timber and Silviculture grouping.
FACTS User Guide, Appendix B: Activity Codes

STAGE
Stages, as defined in FACTS, are used to spatially track an activity unit at certain points in the life of the unit. The NEPA Stage would track the activity unit at the time of the NEPA decision (if identified). The Layout Stage would track the activity unit at the time when the unit is laid out on the ground and could be the same or different than the activity unit at the NEPA Stage. The Accomplished Stage would track the activity unit when the activity that establishes the activity unit is Accomplished. Again this could be the same or different than the NEPA and/or the Layout Stages.

SALE_NAME
Name of a contract between US Forest Service and other party under authority granted by CFR36, Part 223 to sell trees, portion of trees, and other forest products on specified NFS lands for the purpose of achieving policies set forth in Multiple-Use Act Sustained-Yield Act of 1960, the Forest and Rangeland Renewable Resources Planning Act of 1974, and the remaining Program as identified in Part 223.
NRM FACTS
Proper name of Timber Sale Contracts.
SHAPE.AREA

NRM FACTS
Aspect - direction of slope in compass points.
FY_COMPLETED
The Federal Fiscal Year begins on October 1 and ends on September 30 of the succeeding calendar year.
NRM FACTS
Fiscal Year the activity is physically completed (yyyy). This is calculated from the Date Completed.
SUID
Subunit ID. Concatenation of the Region, Forest, District, FACTS ID, and Subunit codes. The SUID identifies down to the subunit where an activity will occur within an Activity Unit. Activity Subunits can have multiple activities on them and overlap with other Subunits within the Activity Unit. SUID is alpha/numeric. SUID is the link between spatial and tabular data records.
NRM FACTS
The activity subunit that corresponds to the land encompassing the whole of the activity unit must have a subunit ID of '000'. When activities are performed on only a portion of an activity unit, a new subunit can be created to represent that portion. These subunits may be numbered in sequential order or you may wish to use letters that more easily identify the subunit. The subunit is identified in total by a concatenation of the AU (Activity Unit) Region, AU Proclaimed or Administrative Forest, AU District, FACTS ID, and Subunit fields. An example of a SUID is 0111021A51466541016. This first six numbers of this 19-digit code include the region/forest/district code (011102), followed by the ten-digit FACTS ID (1A51466541), and concluded with the three digit subunit (016).

PRODUCTIVITY_CLASS_DESC
The rate at which biomass is produced per unit area. For forestry is the inherent capacity of forest land to grow commercial wood per unit area, or board foot per acre and can be species specific. It also can be equated to site quality: the productivity capacity of a forest site expressed as volume production by species
