This polyline feature class depicts the river corridors of each Wild and Scenic River designated by Congress or the Secretary of the Interior for the United States and Puerto Rico. This GIS data layer was created from a multi-agency effort by the US Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The spatial data were referenced to the latest High Resolution National Hydrological Data Layer (NHD 1:24,000 Scale or better), published by United States Geological Survey (USGS).
<purpose>This geospatial data set represents the Wild and Scenic Rivers designated by Congress and the Secretary of Interior for the United States and Puerto Rico. This is a product of the Inter-agency Wild And Scenic Council and was developed in order to share information about the Wild and Scenic River System.</purpose>

Since the Wild and Scenic rivers established under this provision of the WSRA are not assigned a number by Congress, the secretarially designated rivers are assigned a sequence, prefaced by ?SD? (Secretarially Designated). 2. For the purpose of assigning sequential numbers, the Wild and Scenic rivers are listed chronologically based on designation date.
