Activities meeting the Monarch Butterfly Habitat Restoration initiative are a subset of activities that benefit native plants, and in doing so, benefit pollinators. Activities such as thinning, prescribed fire and other methods of fuel removal, treating invasive species and acres of native plantings can benefit Monarchs. Activities are self-reported by Forest Service Units and are reported when completed. This layer does not contain all activities that benefit Monarchs because this is a relatively new requirement for the program. The quality and comprehensiveness of this data will increase over time.
<purpose>This feature class represents Monarch Butterfly Habitat Restoration (MBHR) activities as polygons. Activities are summarized for the number of acres treated (completed) annually that maintain and restore native plants in Monarch butterfly habitat. Activities include thinning, prescribed fire, and other methods of fuel removal, treating invasive species and acres of native plantings. This layer does not contain all activities that benefit Monarchs. The FACTS database is the corporate tool for tracking fire/fuels, silviculture, invasive species, and native plants work activities. Other NRM applications such as TESP are used to manage the species level surveys and occurrences.</purpose>

<attrdef>Stages, as defined in FACTS, are used to spatially track an activity unit at certain points in the life of the unit. The NEPA Stage would track the activity unit at the time of the NEPA decision (if identified). The Layout Stage would track the activity unit at the time when the unit is laid out on the ground and could be the same or different than the activity unit at the NEPA Stage. The Accomplished Stage would track the activity unit when the activity that establishes the activity unit is completed. Again this could be the same or different than the NEPA and/or the Layout Stages.</attrdef>
