<othercit>The Forest Service is aggressively implementing projects to mitigate the effects of the bark beetle in the Forest Service's western regions under the 2011 Western Bark Beetle Strategy. The strategy is being achieved through three well-defined goals: human safety, forest recovery, and long-term forest resiliency. https://www.fs.usda.gov/restoration/index.shtml</othercit>

<descript>
WBBS_PT depicts the location of activities to implement the Western Bark Beetle Strategy. Activities were self-reported by field units, and center around three main objectives: increasing safety to ensure that people and community infrastructure are protected from the hazards of falling bark beetle-killed trees and elevated wildfire potential, facilitating recovery to re-establish forests damaged by bark beetles, and cultivating resiliency to prevent or mitigate future bark beetle impacts. WBBS ended in FY16 and was not renewed, so it is no longer a requirement to track WBBS accomplishments. It became an optional entry to the National Resource Management (NRM) database beginning in FY2017.
<purpose>This data represents activities entered through FACTS (Forest Service Activity Tracking System) to implement the Western Bark Beetle Strategy. It is important to note that this data layer does not contain all of the activities under taken by fiscal year because the data is self-reported and may not be complete. As spatial data is a new requirement for the program, we hope to improve the quality and comprehensiveness of this data in coming years. Activities were self-reported by field units, and center around three main objectives: increasing safety to ensure that people and community infrastructure are protected from the hazards of falling bark beetle-killed trees and elevated wildfire potential, facilitating recovery to re-establish forests damaged by bark beetles, and cultivating resiliency to prevent or mitigate future bark beetle impacts.</purpose>
<supplinf>A required set of core attributes must be collected during field work and electronically stored in the corporate NRM FACTS application to meet the minimum business needs of this protocol. Required attributes are established to meet corporate expectations of reporting, monitoring or data sharing. All required and optional fields in this protocol are supported in the NRM FACTS application. Some attributes are auto-generated and populated in the FACTS application from the spatial feature. Detailed attribute descriptions and collection standards follow later in this document under Resource, Fields, Entity and Attribute Information.</supplinf>
