<descript>
Actv_ProjectArea_TimberSale represents an area (polygon) within which one or more Timber Sale related activities are aggregated or organized. The data comes from the Forest Service's Natural Resource Manager (NRM) Forest Activity Tracking System (FACTS), which is the agency standard for managing information about activities related to fire/fuels, silviculture, and invasive species. FACTS is an activity tracking application for all levels of the Forest Service.
<purpose>This dataset is a central source for project area boundaries for use in national information requests and cross unit analysis and makes the project area boundaries and their basic attributes more easily available to field units. It also provides public access to the data during project planning and implementation.</purpose>
<supplinf>This feature class is part of a larger dataset of project areas which are described as NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act), Timber Sales, SAI Plans (Sale Area Improvement Plans), CFLRP (Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Program), Stewardship, and Other non-standard boundaries. These extents illustrate areas in which many activities occur that have a relationship. A boundary is, as itself, not an activity, it is the extent within which activities occur. For example, a project area for Timber Sale is the contractual area in which harvesting can take place. A NEPA boundary defines where the analysis takes place allowing future activities. An SAI Plan contains the area that KV (Knutson-Vandenberg) funded activities can take place. A Timber Sale designation is used for both the Timber Sale and SAI Plan if the SAI plan boundary is identical to the timber sale boundary. If the SAI plan is less than the Timber Sale boundary, both Timber Sale and SAI Plan boundaries are created. CFLRP boundaries encompass science-based ecosystem restoration of priority forest landscapes activities. Stewardship Boundaries define where stewardship funded activities take place.</supplinf>
