The MAPLand Act requires Federal Land Management Agencies within the Department of the Interior, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to develop and adopt interagency standards to ensure compatibility and interoperability among Federal geospatial data for the dissemination of outdoor recreation data related to Federal lands.

The Forest Service will begin on these dates to provide MAPLand compliant and standardized data for the following datasets:

April 2026:

April 2027: (Service URLs will be provided when data is published in the MAPLand standard).

  • Recreational Shooting and Hunting Regulated or Closed Areas
  • Roads
  • Trails
  • Designated Motorized Areas
  • Shooting Ranges

MAPLand Act required datasets provide easy-to-use and consistent digital data to private sector application developers and the public about access to public lands for recreation.
